I read most of the article, got the gist of it and read the conclusion. It is an interesting point of view. As the oil runs out, and the global economy collapses, the dead will be counted in the billions, and we will all be third world.

Then whoelse will be the first and second world?

No one will be first world Wendelin. First world status is based on global trade and colonies. When the world economy colapses, I expect there will be pockets of humanity that will do all right. Have a look at peakoil.com and you may understand my point of view.

Your point is interesting.
For me, the trend of world development is a likely uneven development, but is not so much as Andre Frank's concept of dependency development, so that the current stratified hierarchy will cause different damages even though the world economy will collapse oneday.

Governments tend to squash little people. I'm on the side of little people for sure. I just think that while the governments of the world play their games of dominance and hierarchy, a whole lot of innocent people are going to die. What can we little people do except try get out of the way, and not get crushed under their wheels.
I'm never presented with the oppertunity to vote for a government that isn't insane. I can't relate to world leaders. None of what they do relates in any way to my vision of what the world could be like.

To ticharu,

Total agree that it might be a way to resist for a individual. My past experience is more likely a collective action (i.e. social movement)though it doesn't mean that better consequence can be achieved.

To vincentt,

You will know if you read the above article from the link. That article discusses how many costs/damages the US have spent/made in the Western Asia, in particular Iraq and Israel-Palestine.
